Welfare Benefits

Many people don’t claim all the benefits that they are entitled to. Tandem advisers can take some basic details from you to check whether you could apply for any additional benefits. We can also give you advice and support to help you complete your forms.

Making a claim

When making a claim for any benefits, it is important to provide all the information you are asked for. This might be proof of your identity or proof of income. Your claim will not usually be processed until all this information has been provided.

To make sure you are getting the right amount of money from benefits, you must let the relevant department know about any changes in your circumstances. This isn’t a full list, but changes can include:

  • A partner moving in, or out
  • The birth of a child
  • A child leaving school
  • A change in your income, hours of work, employment or address.

If the Department for Work and Pensions doesn’t have the right information, you may be getting too little or too much money. If you are being paid too much, the DWP, will always take it back, which will reduce your income in the future.
