Tandem sign-up appointment

During this sign-up appointment, Tandem advisers can:

  • Give advice on the information to provide to make sure any housing benefit continues to be paid in your new home
  • Complete a benefit check to see if you are entitled to any additional income
  • Talk about how and when to pay your rent, and who to contact if you are having difficulty paying, so you don’t get into rent arrears or face eviction in the future
  • Look into your financial situation if you ask us to, to help you deal with any problem debts
  • Assist you to choose and open a bank account, if necessary
  • Check the cheapest suppliers for your gas, electricity, phone and other bills
  • Let you use our phones to tell utility companies that you have moved to a new home
  • Talk about the costs of running your home, the bills you will need to pay and the difference between priority and non-priority debts
  • Answer general questions about home insurance, including the Erimus home contents insurance scheme
  • Talk about how to get the things you need for your home, without overstretching yourself, financially
  • Refer you to local services which may be useful, including credit unions and support groups
  • Refer you on to other agencies for specialist benefits, debt or financial advice
  • Help you with any other financial problems or any worries you tell us about

If you run out of time during your sign-up appointment and need help with other money matters, your Tandem adviser will arrange to meet with you again, once you are settled into your new home.
