Mr. S is disabled and housebound. He was struggling to keep up with his bill payments.

His Tandem adviser talked about the range of bank accounts available and helped Mr. S to arrange for his utility bills to be paid by Direct Debit. Tandem also registered Mr. S on a social tariff , saving him £250 on his gas and electricity bills over the year. Tandem also rang some of the companies that Mr. S owed money to, at his request. He was able to pay off some debts over the phone, which was a relief. In the appointment, Mr. S also filled in an income and expenditure form with his Tandem adviser, and realised he could afford to buy an electric scooter, which would enable him to get out and about.

Mr. H has debt problems and he is feeling increasingly depressed and anxious about this. He is also having panic attacks.

When he came to the Tandem appointment, he was very upset and nervous and he didn't know how to turn things around. Tandem helped Mr. H to start to deal with his money problems. His Tandem adviser checked his benefit entitlement and asked for a Disability Living Allowance form to be sent out and looked for ways that Mr. H could save money. His adviser referred him to a debt advice agency in Middlesbrough to get specialist help.

At the end of the appointment, Mr.H said he felt so much better now he has started to deal with his money problems. He also referred his daughter for an appointment with Tandem.
